Education
Hans Offringa started his writing career as an editor of the newspaper at the high school he attended in Zwolle. After graduation he lived in England for a short while. When he returned to The Netherlands he commenced an evening study in English Literature, combining it with a daytime job as a proofreader at a large publisher of special interest magazines. Afterwards he attended various media courses, from journalism to producing audiovisuals. In the area of whisky and whiskey he has been trained by Michael Jackson (+), Charles MacLean and the American whiskey icons George Stone (Jack Daniel's), Jim Rutlegde (Four Roses), Jerry Dalton (Jim Beam) and Jimmy Russell (Wild Turkey). Hans has visited numerous distilleries in Scotland, England and the USA and interviewed many people in the whisk(e)y industry.
Becky Lovett Offringa has a degree in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston (SC). After having worked at various laboratories in South Carolina, Oregon and New York, she returned to Charleston and became a certified real estate agent. The next nine years she worked as Vice President at James Doran Company, a real estate investment and development company. During this time she served on the board of JDC's sister company, Humanities Foundation, a non-profit company specialized in affordable housing. Via interviews, visiting distilleries and conducting research for Hans' whisky books and articles, Becky developed a thorough knowledge about whisky and whiskey over the years. She is known for being an excellent taster with a great vocabulary for describing aromas and flavours.
